SO I got my Special Edition of Devil May Cry 4 and I preordered form gamestop so I got an "artbook".
Before I whine, the game is FUN as HELL!!! The graphics are smooth as silk, the voice acting is awesome, great call on using the same guy as Ichigo from Bleach to play Nero, and Dante is as usual his old smart ass self. The new characters are interesting, and there is the status Quo video game slut. No I'm not being a "weird gamers girl", when you have a chic running around commando, with barely there loin covers, in high heels, with her boobs busting out, who manages to be explicitly sexual in her killing, weapon unsheathing and fighting technique, while the camera tries to sneak a peak at her commando crotch, you're a game slut, maybe it's payback for a half naked Dante in DMC3, I dont care, Lady and Trish are more conventional to me :P Guess sun deprived nerds need new jerk off material.
I'm about 3 hours into the game, and being a DMC verteran I can say it's not a crazy hard as 3, some of the boss fights were medium difficulty, and I already fought a very hard boss, which once I figured out the pattern he wasn't terribly hard(granted before that I wanted to throw somthing, preferrably one that didn't cost $50 to replace). There are some marathon spots I've gone through where if you don't know how to fight multiple enemies in DMC, you will be punished for it. The puzzles aren't as super involved like say a Resident Evil puzzle, but they have their own DMC twist on the puzzles. The game is like a combo of DMC and God of War, viscious, stylish and amazingly fun, so far, I'm enjoying as well as the good comebacks of the long Cinemas, which in my opinion, games really don't do any more. I think they should, it doesn't matter if you can't "show off" your FMV graphics anymore, I just like being treated to cool visuals (come on I'm old school). So far the game for me is a 9/10
Now for my bitchings:
The special edition, for me was all inticing because of the "Behind the Scenes and Art book" features. Now, Gears of war, despite it's lame ass "artbook" (I bought the special edition strategy guide to get the REAL art book) the Behind the scenes really gave you a look at how they approach things and made you feel like you were appreciated as a gamer who is also interested in, if not someone in the industry. Capcom, REALLY fell short in their Behind the scenes. If they're paranoud about theft or disturbing their workers, that's one thing, they are one of the longest lasting and greatest developers to this day, but the "Behind the Scenes" is weak. It's just a producer sitting in the chair, with 2 camera angles answering kinda weak questions, and they occasionally cut to B-roll of the game and actors... yay, I'm gonna go shoot up some salt water because that was just about all I got out of it was, ok.. yeah...
The artbook is this small hard-bound instruction booklet sized... thing. I mean at least you didn't get butt pumped like Bungie did with their "flimsy paper InstructionArtbooklet" which I am still PISSED about, I could have cared less about a dumb MC helmet.
The soundtrack is 5 songs... whoppee. The digital artbook is kinda neat and I know they would never give out hi-res digital work so that's forgiveable. And the anime, for me I saw the first 2 eps awhile ago, it's ok, nothing that spectacular, but I'll watch the other 2. And to me, that is why the SE was $79.99, not any of the other "special" content.
The metal tin is nice though, very shiny and the design is well thought out.
So if you want the amazingly fun, stylish game and the anime, this is worth it, just don't expect a huge gleaming package, you'll de dissapointed.
